Deviation Actions
To celebrate our one year anniversary as a group, we at BioIllustration are launching our first contest!
Prompts
There will be two prompts for the sake of variety:
1. Create an illustration in the scientific style highlighting an organism's unique or unusual characteristic (anatomical, behavioral, etc.). You must actually show the unique characteristic! For example, if it's a behavior, show it in action. If it's an internal organ, we need to be able to see it either in cross-section or outside the body.
2. Create an illustration in the scientific style depicting an endangered species you had not previously realized was endangered (this includes plants!). Please no tigers/big cats, pandas, gorillas, etc. - if you did not know they were endangered, you have been living in an intellectual hole.
Submitting
We will be accepting submissions from now until June 30, 2012. In your submission, please include which prompt you followed and give some information about your chosen organism. Please submit deviations to the Contest folder. Since this contest was created with the goal of generating more deviations for the group, we ask that you submit pieces new to deviantart, rather than entering existing art (pretty please!!). After the contest has concluded, the deviations will be moved to the appropriate normal gallery folders.
Note: Submissions will be held to the same standard as normal submissions, since they will eventually be integrated into the normal gallery folders. Hence no sketches or poorly scanned/photographed pieces. If we turn a piece down for artistic reasons, we will include a critique.
Voting
The contest winners will be decided by a general vote. Voting will take place during the first two weeks of July. Since BioIllustration is not a super group and doesn't have a polling function, the poll will be held at Co-founder Banvivirie's page.
Prizes
We would love to offer a prize other than the satisfaction of winning to the poll winners. If you can donate points, journal features, llamas, or anything else, please let us know in the comments and we will add them to a prize tally below!
1st Place:
: Journal Feature and a llama badge
: 3 Month Premium Membership, Journal Feature, and a llama badge

2nd Place:

3rd Place:

Good Luck! We can't wait to see what you come up with!

Thank you to all who participated!
Let us know if there's anything we can do to improve the contest process! For six-month contests, we seem to get very few eligible entries.
Do you think we should have shorter contests? Longer contests? One winner? Better prizes? Voting on contest topics? Leave a comment if you have ideas! :D
Vote now, choose your favorite!
THREE FANTASTIC ENTRIES, they are guaranteed winners of journal features, points and llama badges! :la: We now need to determine who gets what prizes.
VOTE AT ~Banvivirie (https://www.deviantart.com/banvivirie)'S PAGE!! THERE IS ALSO A DONATION BOX JUST BELOW THE POLL THAT IS BEING USED TO FUND :iconbioillustration: BECOMING A SUPER GROUP SO WE CAN HAVE A POLLING FUNCTION ON OUR OWN PAGE! WE ARE REALLY CLOSE! :eager:

Contest poll is up! Vote! Go vote now!
Thank you so much to those who submitted! They are all fantastic illustrations!
The poll is up on ~Banvivirie (https://www.deviantart.com/banvivirie)'s page, and if you would like to help make BioIllustration a super group so we can actually have our own poll function, there is a donation box directly below the poll. The poll will be closed on Saturday the 14th.
Sorry about the lateness, I completely forgot with changing day jobs and having people screaming in each ear about meeting deadlines. Ironic.
We will be churning out another set of guidelines for the next contest soon enough. I see a big problem is getting people informed and aware that a contest is even going on, a
Contest deadline extension - September 1
So we have two entries so far - thanks guys! I have had a few other people message me with concerns about finishing their pieces on time. We will be extending the deadline a few more days,
but seriously guys these contests are six months long. :stare:
New deadline: Sunday, September 1 :dummy:

There will be two prompts to choose from for this round, however these two will not be easily combine-able, due to their requirements. You must either do one or the other.:
1. Create an illustration of the largest organism and smallest organism of some taxon, showing their relative sizes.
The difference in size
